Car Payment almost gone

I can hardly believe that by September of this year our 2007 Kia Sedona will be paid for. This was the first vehicle that either one of us owned that was new. The Kia will be paid off 1 year early, I know that does not seem like much but that is one less year paying interest. Once we are done paying for this then we will put those payments toward the credit card with the highest interest rate. If we keep within our budget then by July of 2013, three of our credit cards will be paid off. Those will be our last three credit cards.  December of this year the first card will be paid off  and the next one in January. 

Summer is here

Summer has started for me. The kids are out and we are getting ready for vacation, family reunions, and trips to visit colleges. My 17 year old will be a senior this year. So we are continuing the hunt for college scholarships. As many parents know it is hard to pay for tuition but we will be applying to every scholarship that he qualifies for this year. We will have 2 in college after he graduates next year. Bills will be higher as well in the summer-  the kids are home so that means more meals, more electricity, more of everything will be used. There are so many ways that you can cut down on the cost over the summer. One way is cheap entertainment I plan to take the boys to $2 movie and popcorn, library for reading events, and the local museum.  We are making our own frozen treats this summer.  I will post some recipes later on of them.  I am just so excited about summer this year.

Debt, Debt and more debt

I have been working on a plan the last couple of months to get my family out of debt. We have 4 credit cards, 2 student loans, car, medical bills and a house along with the regular bills. In order to save money we have been eating food out the stockpile for several weeks. Last week was the first time that I had to buy meat  in over 5 months. I only purchased meat that was discounted. I have learned how to be really creative with the items in the stockpile.  Lately I have cut out the extra trips to the drug stores unless the items are free. The debt is slowly going down and by the end of the summer the car and 1 credit card will be paid off.  Well the medical bills will be paid in the next month or so.  I just feel that we are slowly working on the debt. It will feel good to get rid of some of the debt. I know it will take time and has to be done one debt at a time. I hope that your journey is going great.

Quick update

I just wanted to let everyone know that I am doing great and have paid off 2 bills so far. My oldest has started college. He is majoring in pre-med. The kids are all doing great in school. They have been in school for the last month. I am loving the feel of fall in the air. I am hoping that everyone is doing well.

All You Challenge- Grocery challenge

All You magazine is having a challenge to only spend $25 a week per person for groceries. I thought I would try this. This would give 125 a week on groceries which is more than I allow myself to spend a week now. So far this week my spending has been

Did It - Budget

I sat down and did it. I wrote down where all the money goes and it is amazing how much goes on impulse items.  I wrote down all of our debt and figured out to get everything paid off. We will be trying to use the Dave Ramsey method of snowballing. I even wrote down on the calendar when each bill needs to be paid to avoid late fees.  If everything works out then we should have everything but the mortgage paid off in 4 years. I will be looking for a job in the fall to try to help  out more. I am only buying items that we have to use. We are eating out of the stockpile for the next  week or so.

Sorry for lack of post

I am sorry about the lack of post but I have busy the last week. We just welcomed a new bundle of joy to the family. My niece had a healthy 8lbs 8 oz baby boy who is such a sweetie, the kids have were out last week and it was full of doctor and dentist appointments. We were running most of the week.
